Shop For Charity by Charles Mander - Comedy Are charity shops really there to help the Developing World or are they just a sop to the consciences of the middle-class people who run them? Thought-provoking and full of "characters" this is a very amusing play about the nature of charity. Salcombe Players. An extract from "Birthday Honours" by Paul Jones - Comedy The action takes place in the Bestwood's London home in 1955. It is thought that Alec, a respected consultant surgeon, is to receive a knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. The two sisters of his wife, Monica, tell her that the affaire she has been having with Peter Varley must cease, if she is to become Lady Bestwood. Alec returns early from a business trip and discovers the affaire, but surprisingly shows no anger, only relief. He is very polite to Monica's lover, and appears to actively encourage the affaire. Monica, however, takes her sisters' advice and drops Peter, but is very put out to discover Alec's indifference to this and suspects that he too is having an affaire with his secretary, Elizabeth. INTERVAL Whatifandwhynot, Dartington. First Act of "St Joan" by George Bernard Shaw Drama The play opens in the French castle, Vaucouleurs, on a river between Lorraine and Champagne in the year 1429. Robert de Baudricourt has no eggs for his breakfast. His steward says, the hens are not producing because of the presence of Maid Joan who is waiting at the door of the castle to see him. Robert receives Joan who is able to convince the officer to provide armour, a horse and the assistance of a few of his best men. The young girl is confident that she will be able to reach the Dauphin and raise a siege at Orleans to drive out the English ........ Kingsbridge Amateur Theatrical Society An extract from "When We Are Married", by J B Priestley - Comedy Three couples are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversaries. Not only do they all share the same anniversary they all got married at the same church at the same time by the same preacher. But a revelation that comes forth during the festivities throws them all into turmoil. The play revolves around the repercussions of this revelation, and what can be done to solve the problem. The story is further enhanced with the possibility that certain characters are quite pleased with the new situation and are not especially enthusiastic about rectifying it. Performances finish at approximately 10pm
