The Blind Side
12A
DIRECTOR John Lee Hancock WITH Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw, Quinton Aaron, Jae Head, Lily Collins, Ray McKinnon,
Sandra Bullock's Golden Globe and Oscar for best actress are well deserved in this inspirational parable which avoids many of the clichés of the sports' film genre. Michael Oher (Aaron) started life with many disadvantages. He's from a broken home, and is a poorly educated, inarticulate African-American with poor life possibilities until the Touhys, a well-off white family offer Michael a home - just for the time being. But when the stay turns into a long term commitment both the Touhys and Michael begin to discover unexpected truths about themselves. Michael is a gentle giant with a talent for American football. Becoming a success through hard work and with family support - and especially the tough love of Lea-Anne Touhy's (Bullock) - offers the chance of real success. She covers the vulnerable blind side both on the football field and, by extension, in society at large.
PRESS OPINION Film Threat - 'This may be Bullock's best performance. Ever.'
